This is a portrait I did of Andrew Mayberry. Today, we challenged ourselves to do traditional portraits of each other in 24 hours. We tried to use the same technique and similar colours. The 1st image is my contribution to the piece. It is followed by a picture of the two paintings together. This was a lot of fun, I'm sure there will be more collaborations soon.

Some friends and I are participating in a design blog - Designer's Anonymous (http://designeranonymous.blogspot.com) where we all submit work on a specific topic. The first post was to be about Scrooge. Sadly, due to having to finish the portrait in the previous post for Christmas, I was not able to submit my work on time. I did however have the piece planned out and still wanted to do it. Here is tonight's progress. I did the rough illustration as well as a quick colour pass to help determine the mood. The final should follow shortly.

This piece was a Christmas gift for my mom, a portrait of her and her brother, Richard. This was my first serious attempt at doing a portrait. It was stressful due to the tight deadline but in the end, it was worth it. I managed to wrap the finished painting and make a box for it (that was a learning experience) to ship it to Québec City.

I've been chipping away at this piece for a few months now in between other projects. Finally finished it last night, so happy! It was pretty challenging because of the amount of detail but it was also very satisfying to be working traditionally again. More traditional pieces to come soon!

I finished the colours for this tattoo design today. We were adding on to an existing tattoo so I only designed the elements outside the red circle in the last image. However I did redraw and colour everything based on a picture of the existing tattoo. Adapting to someone else's style was a really fun exercise.

Today I got James Gurney's "Colour and Light" and it is so inspiring. I haven't read much yet but just looking at his paintings made me want to do a quick digital piece. Been so busy with school, mostly film stuff up till now so I haven't been able to update this blog. However here are some poses for my character for my action analysis, as well as a guy in handcuffs. He just did something illegal. And he loved it. I want paint him soon, but I think it will have to wait until the christmas break. Don't you love waiting for a break so you can actually get some work done. Makes sense..

I thought the painting looked too washed out so I tuned up the contrast a bit, but it just wasn't really doing it for me... so I tried a slightly different colour scheme which i thinks works better, but overall I'm still not satisfied with it, I feel like I fixed some things and made others worst. I'll probably rework it some more.

Finally pulled this piece together today. It took me a while because I kept stopping and starting again and I'm still not happy with the way it turned out, but it's good enough for now. I'm thinking of repainting it with a different colour scheme.

... and then, we procrastinate even more by painting the sketch that we did not really like in the first place. Ahhh, if only man had not invented time, then I would be in Heaven. Here is the line art of the drawing I intended to paint. It was inspired by Ernest Hemingway's "Hills Like White Elephants", and interesting short story about a man who would like his younger girlfriend to get an abortion and tries to convince her to have the operation while they are waiting for a train. It was interesting, not quite my cup of tea, but it was also required reading for my elective course.

Vincent's Garage

A new idea I had, these four characters are mechanics, all working in the same garage. From left to right we have Eve, Vincent, Albert and Carlos. Eve is a mechanic grew up with 7 brothers and a father who didn't want a daughter so she's one of the best mechanics in town (we've all heard that story I know). Vincent is the owner of the shop, Albert is an introverted artist who also happens to be very talented with the design aspect of vehicles and finally Carlos is the ladie's man, the driver when they enter competitions and although he lacks skills in the mechanic department, he feels like the shop should be his.

This one was fun. I started by creating my interior layout (I spent the whole weekend looking at the home improvement channel for inspiration and now I'm addicted to it!) So after the line art was done, I did some tonal and colour roughs on photoshop, followed by the gouache final piece.
